Violin Lessons Cork

Refresher Violin Lessons

A short course of refresher violin lessons are available for players looking to return to playing and with a view to joining MUSICA Orchestra.
As adults we fully appreciate how music enhances our lives – whether we choose music as a profession or enjoy playing for recreation, or listening to music and going to concerts.
This is why I particularly enjoy facilitating players looking to return to playing to brush up their skills, join an orchestra and enjoy playing and performing again. If you play well already Join the orchestra and be a part of this vibrant group of violin, flute and cello players who meet weekly on Tuesdays 7.15pm to play.
The orchestra performs regularly at concerts and events throughout the year.

Junior Cert and Leaving Cert

A short course of violin lessons to prepare for the practical element of the JC and LC is also available.

There is no availability for beginner lessons.

Violin lessons were my introduction to Classical music. I later also studied viola, and went on to study quartet, chamber music, orchestral technique and conducting. I am now a professional violinist, viola player and string teacher living in Cork City. As director of MUSICA, an orchestra based in Cork City, I work weekly with musicians towards regular concert performances in Cork. I have always enjoyed playing violin or viola with others in groups and I encourage my students to play in string quartets, chamber ensembles and orchestras as soon as they are ready.

My third level education was at Trinity College of Music, London, where I studied for five years with some of the most inspirational teachers and performers from the Classical Music world.

I have an LTCL Performers Diploma from Trinity and an Honours Masters Degree in Classical String Performance in both violin and viola from the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick.

During these periods of study I was awarded the Student’s Union Chamber Music Prize on two occasions, The Louise Band Prize, The Sir John Barbirolli Prize and the Irish Chamber Orchestra/University of Limerick ‘Sing Out With Strings’ Scholarship.

I am registered with the Teaching Council of Ireland.

Solo Violinist, Viola player, Chamber music and Orchestral performer

As a professional violinist and viola player I have worked with many ensembles:
The Sterling String Quartet, Munster String Quartet, Cork City Quartet, Silver Strings Duo, Cork Baroque Orchestra, Cork Opera House Orchestra, Irish Performing Arts Festival Orchestra, Cork Pops Orchestra, Cork Mozart Players, Academos Chamber Orchestra, Retorika Renaissance Ensemble, Tafel Consort, Celtic Lyre Orchestra, Belfast Baroque Orchestra, Trinity College of Music Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, Limerick Choral Union Orchestra, and The University of Limerick Orchestra. I also play with local professional string quartets and orchestras at concerts and functions across Cork City and County.

Playing in the ensembles I have mentioned has brought me to perform in great venues in Ireland, England, Europe and America:
The Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Centre, St. Martin in the Field’s, St.John’s Smith Square, Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Boston Pops, Lincoln Centre, University of Limerick Concert Hall, Cork Opera House, Everyman Palace, National Concert Hall, RDS, Grand Opera House Belfast, Festival at Queens and many more.
